Remember that one time when Taylor Lautner was poised to be a big action star with his breakout role in Abduction only to have the film absolutely bomb?  Well apparently Lautner is ready to give the whole “action star” thing another go, as it was announced today that the Twilight star will topline Tracers with Daniel Benmayor (the Manhunt) onboard as director.  Lautner stars as a New York City bicycle messenger who is “the hottest thing on two wheels” (this is literally how the character is described).  He’s in debt to an organized crime organization, but he crashes his bike into a “sexy stranger” and becomes seduced by the world of parkour.  Apparently picking up parkour as a hobby magically gets you out of debt.  Hit the jump for more, including the full press release that features a wonderfully absurd logline.

I understand that Lautner is eager to break out of the Twilight typecasting, but Abduction crashed and burned and this project sounds absolutely ridiculous.  Lautner’s Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson is actually making some fantastic acting choices (Cosmopolis looks splendidly trippy), but this Tracers thing sounds like a fake movie from Funny People.  Sadly, the project is very, very real.

If there is one good thing to say about Taylor Lautner as an actor (pause for inevitable barrage of jokes and insults), it’s that he does have significant athletic ability, which could potentially translate into a solid career as an action star. Sure, Lautner’s first post-Twilight attempt at action stardom (last year’s Abduction, remember that?) resulted in critical disaster, but as they say, “If at first you don’t succeed…”

Taylor Lautner will get another chance to prove his action skills by headlining Tracers, a new film from FilmNation Entertainment; the film will also see the young star enter into the world parkour, the free-style movement discipline first developed in France.

For those who don’t know, Taylor Lautner has been a martial arts star since young age, has won several junior world championships and earned a black belt at age eight(!). Aside from that impressive resume, he’s been pretty athletic all of his life – hence that body Twilight tweens (and their moms) swoon over. Aside from sounding like president of the TL fan club, I say all that to say: Tracers will be an interesting project to see Lautner in.

The title is derived from the slang-term for those who practice parkour: Check out the official press release for more on the movie’s plot:

Basically, it’s your standard Boy is in danger, boy meets girl, boy and girl have to get out of danger, scenario; the draw will be the scenes of parkour-style action that director Daniel Benmayor will be offering to audiences. Parkour has been an impressive element in certain action films of the last few years: hardcore fans will certainly reference the District 13 franchise, which was released in France and has a cult-following in the States; while casual moviegoers will recall the impressive parkour chase sequence opening to Casino Royale.

Done right, Tracers could be both a great doorway into parkour for a wider moviegoing audience, while also establishing Lautner as a star in the action genre. Of course, the movie has to actually be good - and has to wow those who are immediately put-off by the thought of seeing a Taylor Lautner movie. With FilmNation Entertainment putting out some lackluster films (the recently-released The Raven or the upcoming House at the End of the Street), and Benmayor’s lacks of directorial experience (this is his third film), it’s hard not to be concerned about the quality of Tracers. Maybe a good trailer will change that.

Taylor Lautner has a real-life cheerleader on his side. The "Twilight" hunk has apparently been hanging out with his high-school sweetheart again.

Lautner and Sara Hicks, who cheers for the Los Angeles Clippers, were spotted out and about in Los Angeles on a date this week. The twosome walked out of a restaurant and then got into the actor's car. They were first photographed together back in January leaving a performance of OVO by Cirque du Soleil, and have been hanging out off and on so far this year.

Back in January, a source told Usweekly.com that the rekindled couple "has been hanging out a lot in L.A., seeing a few shows and going to dinner." But they were spotted hanging out all the way back in 2009. They were linked romantically again in 2010.

According to her bio on the L.A. Clippers website, the 19-year-old describes herself as "outgoing, optimistic, and a free-spirit." She also loves "dancing, eating sushi, shopping, and volunteering." She also lists Britney Spears as her favorite singer.

It's a good thing Lautner is a big Britney fan. In a 2011 MTV News interview, the actor opened up about his fandom for the singer. "I love her new album [Femme Fatale]," Lautner said. "I haven't seen the videos, I have to see the videos, but the songs are great."

While Hicks isn't a celeb, Taylor has dated famous ladies including his "Valentine's Day" co-star Taylor Swift, his "Abduction" co-star Lily Collins and Selena Gomez.

Is Taylor Lautner rekindling his romance with ex-girlfriend Sara Hicks?
On Monday, the Twilight hunk, 20, and his Los Angeles Clippers cheerleader ex, 19, were spotted on a dinner date in Los Angeles.

Keeping a relatively low profile, the duo dressed down for their outing, with Lautner hiding behind a black baseball cap, while Hicks showed off her fit bod in a gray top and jeans. It's not the first time Twilight's Lautner has given his ex another shot. In January, the duo took in a performance of Cirque du Soleil's OVO in Santa Monica, Calif. At the time, a source told Us Weekly the duo were just having fun reconnecting, and had "been hanging out a lot in L.A., seeing a few shows and going to dinner."

Finally, we get to see two new stills from Breaking Dawn Part 2. The two that have been released feature Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner. The movie is slowly being promoted now that The Hunger Games has come and gone. It won’t open until November 16th, but it will be a holiday hit without a doubt. Right now Rob and Kristen have gone back to reshoot some scenes at the request of the studio. However, it is reported not to cause a delay. You will find both videos down below this post.

I am pleased to see that they have finally released an image or in this case, two from the movie. I have no doubt that they will be taking their time doing so, but at the same time I do expect we will see a few amazing items. No doubt, they will pull out the big stuff in hopes to keep us all talking about the big movie well before it comes out. It seems unlikely that they would release something that would ruin it, but at the same time, I do think they will milk it. I think we can all expect a Twilight Saga overload that is just starting now.

Check out Taylor Lautner in one of two just released stills from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2! The conclusion to the popular vampire franchise hits theaters November 16th. Director Bill Condon recently posted a production update on the film’s Facebook page and revealed another trailer will soon be surfacing!

“Hello Twihards! Greetings from Los Angeles, where we’re hard at work on Breaking Dawn, Part 2. It’s truly crazy to think that it’s been a year since we wrapped production in Vancouver, since for those of us in the editing room the work has never stopped,” he wrote.

“I’m excited to report that before too long we’ll have another trailer for you to decode. And wait until you see the first posters – they’re unlike any Twilight images you’ve seen before. And then November 16 will be upon us and the final film will be yours! These were snapped last night as Taylor Lautner was seen leaving a Cirque Du Soleil's "Iris" show in L.A. with a mystery hottie. The couple were seen busting out in his plush Fisker Karma, that $100K plug-in hybrid sports car that a lot of celebrities are bagging. For the record, Leonardo DiCaprio was the first dude to get it & Justin Bieber got one for his 18th birthday.

Actor Taylor Lautner is in talks to appear in " Grown Ups 2" alongside Adam Sandler. The 20-year-old "Twilight Saga" star, who rose to fame after portraying Jacob Black in the vampire film franchise, is being lined up for a key, fun role, alongside Sandler in the sequel to the 2010 comedy movie.

Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Salma Hayek and Maya Rudolph are all expected to reprise their roles in "Grown Ups 2", which will see Dennis Duganwill returning as the director. Lautner will return to the big screen later this year in " The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2", the final installment in the series.

If you've been itching to see Taylor Lautner flex his comedy chops more on the big screen, this news is for you. The "Twilight Saga" star has just nabbed a role in the sequel to 2010's "Grown Ups," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Lautner will join most of the original cast in the sequel including its leading man Adam Sandler, as well as Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Maya Rudolph and Salma Hayek. "Project X" star Oliver Cooper also recently joined the cast. Director Dennis Dugan will be back to helm "Grown Ups 2."

Sources say that the big-screen werewolf "will make an appearance in a 'fun' role, in which he goes toe-to-toe with Sandler."The role marks a departure for Lautner, who previously angled more toward action-based blockbusters like the "Twilight" flicks and "Abduction," which was a Stateside box-office dud but managed to gross $82 million worldwide.

The first "Grown Ups" film earned $162 million domestically and $271 million worldwide. The film follows a group of friends who reunite as adults after their high school basketball coach dies.

While no further production details about the film are being reported, Lautner does have a busy 2012 ahead of him. He's set to work with Gus Van Sant in his next indie, the final "Twilight" film, "Breaking Dawn - Part 2," opens in November and since mid-2011, he has been attached to the big-screen adaptation of the YA novel "Incarceron."Lautner also recently dropped out of a starring role in "Stretch Armstrong" after being attached to that project for some time.
